Diplomas are issued by the university and awarded to all students who complete degree requirements, submit the application for graduation, and have no diploma hold on their record.

Printed diplomas are 11” x 14” in dimension. They are typically mailed and delivered within 2-4 weeks after your official graduation date to the address specified in your submitted graduation application. If you did not receive your diploma or it was damaged in transit, please contact us for assistance.

Complimentary eDiplomas are issued to all graduates at the same time the printed diploma is issued.

The following services are available through our official diploma vendor, the Michael Sutter Company:

Order a Replacement Diploma

If you need a duplicate or replacement diploma, you can order it easily online. The cost for each replacement diploma is $65.00 plus shipping. Preferred Name on Diploma

Starting with the Spring 2021 graduating class, WFU students have the option to choose to have a preferred name printed on their diploma. When completing your graduation application in Workday, please update the Diploma Name field to reflect exactly how you want your name to appear on your diploma.

If you make changes to your Diploma Name on your graduation application, they will only affect your WFU diploma; your Legal Name or Preferred Name will not be updated by changing your Diploma Name. Your Diploma Name will not appear on your official transcript, in the commencement program, or on any other university document. Any changes to your Legal Name or Preferred Name require a name change. If you need your diploma for licensure or to otherwise serve as a legal document, you should use your legal name.

You cannot misrepresent your identity on your diploma. The name you enter must be one that you use to identify yourself to others. All diploma names are subject to review by the Office of the University Registrar. The University reserves the right to reject the name you enter if it does not comply with these standards. In addition:

  • Use of prefixes/honorifics (Dr., Mr., Ms., Rev., etc.) is not permitted.
  • Addition of pronouns is not permitted.
  • Degree or licensing information is not permitted (e.g., MD, Esq., PhD, etc.).
  • Names must use sentence/title case (e.g., no ALL CAPS).
  • Names must be composed of alpha characters and appropriate punctuation (hyphens, apostrophes, accent marks) only (no numerals, symbols, quotation marks, parentheses, commas).

Be aware of the following if your diploma name differs from your legal name:

  • Apostille – Diploma apostille can only be provided when using your full legal name.
  • Degree Verification – Third parties using a preferred diploma name will not be able to verify your degree through the National Student Clearinghouse using that name. Enrollment and degree verifications are provided using your full legal name.
  • Planning to live or work abroad – Some countries require your diploma for various legal, immigration, and employment purposes. Choosing to print your preferred name on your diploma may result in complications due to the discrepancy between your diploma name and other documents that contain your full legal name.
  • Professional Licensing – Licensing requirements may require you to use your full legal name. Using your preferred name on your diploma may result in complications or delay (requiring additional proof of identification).

If you decide to change your diploma name back to your legal name after graduation (or at any time in the future), you are required to request and pay for a duplicate diploma.

Notarized Diploma Services

Notary services are available on replacement or duplicate diplomas for an additional fee of $35.00. To receive a notary copy certification document with a notary stamp, select that option when ordering a replacement diploma. Your replacement diploma will be printed at the University. This may add 1-2 business days of processing time to your order.
